VS responds to Supreme Court ruling on anonymity in murder case

28 January 2016

Victim Support responds to the Daily Telegraph concerning a Supreme Court ruling on offender anonymity in a murder case.

Mark Castle, Chief Executive of independent charity Victim Support says:

“Cases such as this make abundantly clear how crucial it is for victims to have the opportunity to explain to courts and parole boards the devastating impact the crime has had on them. A Victim Personal Statement can help inform both sentencing and the terms of release. And it’s crucial that victims are kept informed about developments in a case, even decades on, because they have such long lasting impact.

“Victims deserve to have their concerns heard, to be taken seriously and to receive quality advice and emotional support so they, too, can begin to rebuild their lives.”
