We give free, confidential help to people who have been affected by crime in Lancashire. We have four teams located in Accrington, Preston, Lancaster, and Blackpool. We’re an independent charity and you can contact us for support regardless of whether you’ve contacted the police, and no matter how long ago the crime took place. You can also contact us for support regardless of your immigration status in England and Wales.

If you call your local Victim Support team, we’ll provide support that’s personalised to you. We’ll listen with compassion and help you find ways to manage and feel safer. We can also inform you of your rights and the services that you may be entitled to. If you’d like us to, we can refer you to other specialist organisations that can also help.

Independent Domestic Violence Advisors (IDVA)

Our IDVAs support those who have been assessed to be at high risk of harm from domestic abuse. All of our IDVAs complete an accredited training programme to give them the right skills to support you and any dependents. They will understand, listen to you, and believe you.

IDVAs can:

  • help you to explore your options
  • encourage you to make your own decisions
  • support you with whatever decisions you make
  • ensure your safety is paramount
  • take action to help you keep safe
  • liaise with the police and other agencies on your behalf
  • help you access housing, benefits, and debt advice
  • give you information on civil and legal remedies
  • support you if your case goes to court.

Independent Victim Advocates (IVA)

Our IVAs support all victims of crime, including sexual abuse, antisocial behaviour, hate crime, and assault.

IVAs can:

  • give you free, impartial advice
  • tell you about your rights under the Victim’s Code
  • give you information about the criminal justice system and criminal injuries compensation
  • support you to cope and move on from the impact of crime.

Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVA)

Our ISVAs support victims/survivors of rape and serious sexual assault, whether the offence is recent or historic. All of our ISVAs complete an accredited training programme to ensure their support is responsive to your needs. They are fully experienced and will listen to you and believe you. They will help you to report to the police (if you choose to do so) but will support you regardless of whether you report or not.

ISVAs can:

  • ensure you get the right help to keep you safe
  • help you to access services such as counselling and pre-trial therapy
  • help you to understand the legal jargon
  • keep you up to date with legal proceedings
  • support you at court
  • help you to access criminal injuries compensation after the trial.

Children and Young People (CYP) service

Our CYP workers support those aged 5+ who have been the direct victim of crime, or who have been affected by witnessing a crime (including domestic abuse). They are trained to offer age appropriate support, centred on the young person’s needs. This includes support to overcome the impact of crime, and to reduce the risk of becoming a victim in the future. For more information visit Nest Lancashire.

We work with a number of partner organisations in Lancashire to make sure you get the support you need. Find out more about some of the services and organisations we work with.
