How we can help in Gwent
We’re a team of caring and compassionate people who are here to support victims of crime or traumatic incidents.
We’re based in Pontypool but cover the whole of Gwent.
We can support you without the involvement of the criminal justice system. We won’t contact them about you unless we feel someone is at risk.
The crime doesn’t have to have happened recently. If you’ve been a victim of crime historically, we’re still here for you. Sometimes things happen to you, and you don’t realise that support may help until later on.
What do we do?
The Gwent team is made up of trained staff including:
- triage officers
- supporters
- domestic abuse complex supporter
- children and young people (CYP) supporter
- group work facilitator.
We also have advocate roles in the team, who can provide specialised support with or for:
- mental health
- older people
- LGBTQ+ community
- neurodiversity.

The support we can offer
The team will discuss with you how you’ve been affected by crime and provide immediate support and information. They’ll also make sure you’re aware of your rights under the Victims’ Code.
Depending on what you need, supporters can provide longer-term support. They’ll work with you on a range of areas you may need help with, such as your wellbeing and safety to help you move beyond crime.
Our team are there to listen and provide support based on your needs and what’s right for you.
Talking to one of our supporters can help you deal with your feelings after a crime. However, there are often practical problems that can remind you of what you’ve been through. These can make it harder to get your life back under control.
That’s why we also offer help with sorting out the practical elements of being a victim.
Our staff have access to resources that could make a difference to your life and help you to move forward from your experience.
We can also help with housing advocacy or dealing with the criminal justice system before or after court.
If you need specialist help that we don’t think we can provide, we can contact other agencies to help get the support you need.
We work closely with a wide range of other organisations that can help you with many situations caused by crime.
