How we can help

We give emotional and practical help to people who have been affected by crime in Wiltshire. We’re an independent charity and you can contact us for support regardless of whether you’ve contacted the police, and no matter how long ago the crime took place. We’ll help you for as long as it takes to overcome the impact of crime.

If you call your local Victim Support team, we’ll make sure you get the information and support you need. This might be arranging a meeting for you to talk to us and receive emotional support in confidence, helping you to fill out a compensation form or get advice on how to make your home more secure, or referring you to other specialist organisations that can also help.

Last year we offered support to more than 1,200 people affected by crime in Wiltshire.

One of the people we’ve helped recover after crime is Nina*, a victim of theft and fraud.

After going out for the evening with a friend, Nina met a woman who posed as a doctor who had nowhere to stay for the night, as the house she had just bought wasn’t ready.

She seemed so lovely and genuine, and had an ID card and photos, so I let her stay over. In the morning I noticed my bank card was missing; she ‘found’ it for me, but a few days later I noticed £300 had been withdrawn from my account and my disabled badge and water bill had gone missing.

I got help from Victim Support. I’ve had someone to listen to me and be very understanding, which has given me my confidence back and made me aware of different things. I’d become depressed, so I’ve been given weekly tasks to get me back on track.

I didn’t have anyone to talk to but now I do. This woman destroyed my nerves and trust, and Victim Support are really helping with that. Without them I’m not sure where I’d be.
