The charity Victim Support, the country’s biggest provider of services for victims of crime, has appointed Yvonne Thomas as its new Chair of the board of trustees.

Victim Support is an independent charity, dedicated to helping people affected by crime and traumatic incidents in England and Wales.

Yvonne joins Victim Support after retiring as Chief Executive of The Clink Charity, which aims to reduce reoffending, through volunteering and training programmes.

Throughout her career, Yvonne has held senior leadership and board level positions at FTSE companies and within the public sector, including the Ministry of Justice.

Yvonne also provides strategic consultancy to organisations delivering government services and holds trustee roles at charities P3 and The Spencer Club.

Yvonne said:

“I am honoured to have been appointed Chair of the board of trustees and look forward to using my experience to ensure Victim Support continues to deliver high quality support services for victims of crime. With the criminal justice system in crisis and victims’ services facing a perfect storm of funding pressures and ever-growing demand, it’s a challenging time. I am excited to work alongside a talented team to achieve a future where victims’ rights are respected, their voices are heard, and they feel well supported.”

Andrew Tivey, outgoing Chair of the board of trustees at Victim Support said:

“While I am sad to be stepping down as Chair after seven and a half years, I am incredibly proud of all Victim Support has achieved during my tenure. From managing growing demand for victims’ services to adapting during the pandemic, the charity has continuously transformed its service delivery. Our supportline now operates 24/7, alongside a new live chat service, empowering victims to access support in ways that work best for them.

“It has been a privilege to work with dedicated people who ensure victims receive the help they deserve. Despite challenges in the criminal justice system and funding issues, I am confident that Victim Support will continue to thrive thanks to its exceptionally committed staff.”

Yvonne joins the charity in April, taking over from Andrew Tivey, who is stepping down after seven and a half years.
